• How will this affect you?

How will this affect you?

You can continue using your existing Symantec service until it’s cancelled on 31 October 2019.

Or, you can cancel your current service with no early termination fees anytime. If you’re a Telstra Apps Marketplace customer, you can cancel your service through your Telstra Apps Marketplace account or call us on 1800 878 483. If you’re a Telstra Broadband customer, you can cancel your service by calling us on 1800 878 483.

IMPORTANT! You must remove your existing configuration.

Whether you cancel your service or let your service lapse, you must remove your existing configuration prior to the service termination as you need access to your Client Net portal from your network or devices to make sure your business web and email traffic won’t be impacted.

How to remove your existing configuration

If you had an IT professional set up Symantec for your business, we recommend using them to help you remove your existing configuration.

If you need assistance, call us on 1800 878 483.

To avoid any service disruption, it’s important that you change your Mail Exchange (MX) records before the Email Security.cloud service is cancelled. Mail Exchange records are necessary for delivering emails.

How to remove your Web Security.cloud and Smart Connect (web add-on) configuration:

If you need technical help, or a step-by-step guide, call us on 1800 878 483.

There are three methods to remove your existing configuration. In all 3 methods, the client machines have some settings configured in the Browser Proxy Settings (or Windows Proxy Settings).

Step 1: Remove or replace Browser Proxy Settings. Some settings are configured in the Browser Proxy Settings (or Windows Proxy Settings).

Once this is done, no client machine will be using Symantec proxy. Traffic will no longer flow through Symantec Proxy and cancellation should not affect any client machines.

You can now take all the time you need to remove the CSP, Smart Connect, and Symantec CA Certificates from client machines, and de-activate your account.

Step 2:

  1. If you’re using Direct Connection through Browser Proxy Settings to Symantec Proxy Address:
    • The client connects directly through browser settings.
    • You’ll need to remove or replace the proxy address from the Browser Proxy Settings. Example: proxy1.us.webscanningservice.com
  2. If you’re using Client Site Proxy (CSP) – LAN proxy server which connects to Symantec Proxy Address:
    • The client connects to a LAN server machine on which the CSP is running.
    • The client has the IP address of the LAN CSP server machine in browser settings.
    • You’ll need to remove or replace the proxy address from the Browser Proxy Settings. You’ll also want to remove the CSP from the server machine.
  3. If you’re using the Smart Connect Roaming Proxy add-on - local host proxy server running on a client machine which conntects either directly to Symantec Proxy Address, or to a CSP if on LAN:
    • The client has local host (127.0.0.1) in browser proxy settings.
    • You’ll need to remove or replace the 127.0.0.1 proxy address from the Browser Proxy Settings.
    • You’ll want to remove the Smart Connect application from each of the client machines. You might have installed these using Group Policy/PowerShell. You can un-install them using the same automation tools.

In addition, if you are using HTTPS Inspection, you might want to remove our Symantec CA certificate that helps Symantec intercept HTTPS traffic without certificate errors. These certificates are usually installed by Group Policy/PowerShell. They can be un-installed using the same tools:

Log in to Client Net, go to Services, HTTPS and HTTPS Inspection.

How to remove your Email Security.cloud configuration:

There are three steps to remove your existing Email Security.cloud configuration.

First, log in to your Client Net portal, go to Services and Inbound Routes.

Step 1: Change your Mail Exchange (MX) records. All external mail comes through your MX records. Once you cancel your Symantec service or after 31 October, external mail will no longer go through Symantec infrastructure.

Step 2: Change your Inbound Routes to your new Mail Exchange (MX) records:

  1. Sender > Internet > MX records = Symantec > Inbound route > Your mail transfer agent
  2. When cancelling, you’ll need to remove Symantec by:

Sender > Internet > MX records = Your mail transfer agent

Step 3: Change your Outbound Connector to deliver your emails directly to the internet and no longer through Symantec cluster:

Replace ‘X’ with appropriate number/region
Xout.XX.messagelabs.com
